Spreading awareness and inspiring the next generation
One of our biggest missions is to spread awareness and recognition for FIRST and inspire young kids to get involved in the robotics/STEM field at an early age! When conducting outreaches, we want to make sure we have a variety, and not just one type of outreach. We do this by splitting our events into 4 different categories: STEM, Non-STEM, Political, and Global.
We hosted a 4-hour intensive workshop geared to grades 3-6. In the workshop, we led kids through the FTC experience and taught fun and engaging robotics lessons about building, CAD, programming, and more! The workshop included multiple activities to offer a fun and interactive way of learning.
Hosted and attended scrimmages to test our robot, refine strategy, and learn from friendly competition with other teams.
Went to the Fort Bend Library to show our robot to kids and spark their enthusiasm for robotics. We also let them drive the robot to get them a feel of how FTC works.
Set up a booth at CCFFN - a local community carnival - to engage kids and inspire them into STEM using our robot and showing them how unlocking your imaginations can lead to amazing products!
Set up a booth at Telica - a local cultural event - to explain what FIRST is and how they can be involved in what FIRST has to offer. We also demonstrated our robot and let kids that were curious to drive the robot.
Hosted a booth at the "Party at the Plaza" event - a city operated event - where we introduced families to the mission of FIRST and shared ways they could get involved. We also had the opportunity to demonstrate our robot and speak with the Mayor of Sugar Land.
Set up a meeting with Tony Flores (Chief of staff for Congressman Dr. Lalani) to advocate for more awareness to FIRST and possible government funding for all community FTC teams.
Presented to the State Budget Advisor, Madison Yandell to advocate on behalf of FTC community teams to receive some sort of government or central funding.
Met with Fort Bend Judge Sonia Rash to ask about spreading awareness about FIRST and robotics.
Visited HIV+ boys in an orphanage in India and inspired them to get involved with FIRST robotics.
